Reasons why you should foster.
- You increase the dogs chance of getting adopted.
- The dog gets a chance to adjust to a normal household before being adopted.
- Your own dog (if you have one) will learn more sociable skills.
- Its a good way to see if your ready for an additional dog.
- You help out the rescue by learning more about the dogs personality and what type of home would make the best fit for the animal, helping lower return adoptions.
- You are saving a dogs life they may have been on its last day.
- By opening up your home for a dog your allowing the rescue to make room for another dog that's time may be up at the shelter.
- Our rescue cannot function without the help of foster families.
- You might end up with a new family member.
- You get to help out without spending money.
Please remember that most of these animals have never been in a home environment and most likely will not be housebroken. Also keep in mind that they may have bad habits from their previous homes and will need some time to adjust. Most of the time the dogs are just happy to be out of the shelter and into a quite home with a warm bed to sleep on. Crates are great training tools in the beginning to help the dog adjust and have a safe place to go. Also keep in mind that your foster animal may not want to eat for the first few days, give them a chance to settle in. The first couple weeks are a transition time for your foster. He/she is learning to trust you and new routines. We highly recommend that you keep your own animals current on vaccinations for their own safety, as many of the animals come from shelters and may have kennel cough.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I get to choose the animal that I want to foster?
Yes. We will help you decide on which animal best fits your current living situation.
I don't think I could become a foster parent. I would become to attached.
This is one of the most common phrases when people talk about fostering. But it can also be rewarding when you see your foster animal going to their forever home. And once your foster has been adopted you can open your home to another homeless animal that may not have a chance without your help.
What if the animal I'm fostering doesn't work out for me?
At any time we are happy to take the animal back, we can then place you with another animal that better fits your situation.
Do I have to provide food or supplies for the animals in my care?
No. We provide all the food and supplies, unless you would like to do so yourself.
If I have other animals in my home can I still be a foster parent?
Yes. As long as your animals are comfortable with the new animal(s).
If I have children does that rule me out as a foster parent?
No. We will always be make sure we are placing an animal with you that will not be a danger to your kids. It is also good for the animals to be exposed to children, it makes them more adoptable if they are kid friendly.
How will the animal find a home if it is living with me?
We typically have an adoption show every Saturday in the local area. We ask that our fosters can transport the animal to the shows. We also list our animals on our website as well as Adopt A Pet, so be sure to keep us updated with cute pictures and descriptions to help get your foster a forever home.
How long will I be required to foster?
It depends on the animal, some get adopted within a week or two, others take a few months. If at any time you are no longer able to care for the animal you can return it.
Is there a limit to the amount of animals that I can foster?
We base it off your situation and how many animals would be practical to have in your care. Our main concern is for the health and well being of the animals. We don't want to overburden our foster families, we also want to make sure that our animals and your own pets are receiving all the care and love they need.

A Stray's Prayer
Dear God, please send me somebody who'll care! I'm tired of running, I'm sick with despair. My body is aching, it's so racked with pain, And dear God I pray, as I run in the rain. That someone will love me and give me a home, A warm cosy bed and a big juicy bone. My last owner tied me all day in the yard Sometimes with no water, and god that was hard. So I chewed my leash, and God I ran away. To rummage in garbage and live as a stray. But now God, I'm tired and hungry and cold, And I'm so afraid that I'll never grow old. They've chased me with sticks and hit me with stones, While I run the streets just looking for bones! I'm not really bad, God, please help if you can, Or I have become just a "Victim of Man!" I'm wormy dear God and I'm ridden with fleas, And all that I want is an Owner to please! If you find one for me God, I'll try to be good, And I won't chew their shoes, and I'll do as I should. I'll love them, protect them and try to obey.... When they tell me to sit, to lie down or to stay! I don't think I'll make it too long on my own, ‘Cause I'm getting so weak and I'm so all alone. Each night as I sleep in the bushes I cry, ‘Cause I'm so afraid God, that I'm gonna die. And I've got so much love and devotion to give, That I should be given a new chance to Live! So dear God, please answer my prayer, And send me someone who will REALLY care.. That is, Dear God, if YOU'RE REALLY there! A Dog Poem By: Author Unknown |
The Meaning of Dog Rescue
Now that I'm home, bathed, settled and fed, All nicely tucked up in my warm new bed. I'd like to open my baggage, lest I forget, There is so much to carry - so much to regret. Hmm . . . Yes there it is, right on the top. Let's unpack Loneliness, Heartache and Loss; And there by my leash hides Fear and Shame. As I look on these things I tried so hard to leave - I still have to unpack my baggage called Pain. I loved them, the others, the ones who left me, But I wasn't good enough - for they didn't want me. Will you add to my baggage, will you help me unpack? Or will you just look at my things - And take me right back? Do you have the time to help me unpack? To put away my baggage, to never repack? I pray that you do - I'm so tired you see, But I do come with baggage - Will you still want me? A Dog Poem By: Author Unknown |
